Sugar and Spice

Hello world,

Having gone to a fantastic event for students at the Lomography store, I realised I have neglected my analogue photos. So here it is, an analogue picture from a floating market near Bangkok, Thailand.

Sadness and a stone butt

Hello world,

Sometimes, when you walk through a park you spot the strangest things. One very common thing is; statues. Statues are a park trend around the world, from Vienna, through London to Warsaw, Poland. This one especially caught my eye. I am not sure whether it was the sadness it portrays, or the butt.  I'll let you make up your own mind on this.

Here, the statue is sad, yet seems strong, picking itself up from the ground after a fall.

...

And here, is a zoom in on the stone butt.

Snakes about Town

Hello world,

Snakes are creatures that have been disputed over throughout cultures, religions and individuals. Some fear them, some love them. No-one however disbelieves or questions their venomous properties. This green viper was hanging out near a temple in Sandakan, a Malaysian city on the north-eastern cost of Borneo.

Make a Wish

Hello world,

Today we go back to Ayutthaya, the old capital of Siam. Here, in a grand temple is this tree of wishes, prayers. Those wanting to make a wish, write it down on either a blue or pink piece of paper and clip it to the rest, creating this tree of wishes.

People Of The Forest

Hello world,

Borneo is home to vast forests, animals of all kind as well as the People of the Forest. Orangutan, quite literally translates to; person of the forest, with 'orang' meaning person and 'utan' meaning forest. These animals are incredibly human-like. From their facial expressions, to their movement and actions. Here they are; "The Forest People".

Professional laziness

Hello world,

It is time to revisit Costa Rica today. Sloths have really figured out their lives right. Relaxing in the trees all day long, coming down once a week, eating. Sounds pretty good to me. Being on holiday, I have a temporary sloth syndrome :)

Cycling Around the World

Hello world,

Today we set out to journey across the wold on bicycles. First stop, the old capital city of Siam, Ayutthaya. Here, we rest our bikes as we wander around these charred temples and buildings.

Moving onto Indonesia we let these boys relax on our bikes as they laugh, talk and pose like superstars.

From Indonesia we pedal on to India, Bombay. As we walk around the city, we see these  rather rusty old bikes ...

(Taken with a Nikon D300)

To be able to present ourselves in the public, we paint our bikes a bright, happy red colour. The colour representing this vibrant, ever awake city. A hero.

Cycling on, we decide to repaint our bikes blue. We lean our newly coloured bikes against a wall of an old bulding, while we get some food before our next long journey...

After a very long and tiring journey across Asia and Europe, we end up in the great city of Warsaw. This capital of Poland is home to the old and the new architecture.

(Taken with a Nikon D300)

Leaving our bikes by a lamppost, we go ahead and explore Warsaw's "Old Town". Rebuilt after the war, the "Old Town" is home to great old buildings with cafes and restaurants lining up the streets.

Leaving this city behind, we set out on our bikes West, to Berlin.

As we reach Berlin, we set our bikes aside by a tree as we watch these Navy men walk past. Tired from our journey across the continents, we have one last place to reach. The World's End.

We finish our  journey at the world's end... London, Camden to be more preceice. Let us sit down for a beer or two and tell our tales of temples, burned cities and wonders of the world.

Gasping for air

Hello world,

Today we visit the Mangrove trees in Indonesia. Letting roots grow upwards from beneath the water, these trees have worked out a perfect way to respire in the hard climate.

Bombay: The City of Everything and Anything

Hello world,

Tomorrow morning I will be traveling to dear old Bombay (or as many people who do not live there call it, Mumbai). Bombay truly is something else. From the great heat, through to its annoying habits, to that breeze you wait for to cool you down, Bombay is brilliant.

Let us begin our journey through this city at the Banganga Tank. Legend has it, that this rectangular tank of water first sprang out when the Hindu god Ram, thirsty and tired from looking for his wife asked his brother for some water. Ram's brother shot an arrow to the ground, and as the arrow touch the ground, water sprung out. Now the tank is both a place of worship, being surrounded by many temples, and a social place, where youngsters come and play, adults talk and exchange news.

Moving just a few steps away from the tank, we go to the laundrette. This place is a true mystery to me. I just can not wrap my head around how they know what piece of clothing belongs to whom!

Now we move onto Malabar Hill. Malabar Hill is a place filled with magnificent villas, trees whose branches fall onto the street and little gems in the form of temples. Walking or driving through, the feeling of having travelled in time comes about. The houses have walls that have seen and heard more than anyone living there. The trees shield them from the greedy and envious eyes of the passers by.

Finally, we end up in Kala Ghoda. Also filled with beaitiful buildings, Kala Ghoda is more open to new comers. With restaurants on every corner, one feels welcome. It is bursting with life. From festivals, to music on the street, Kala Ghoda is a place anyone will feel welcome.

Air-conditiones line up the walls of houses, as their occupants try to cool themselves off in the heat of Bombay

And finally to finish off, something very typical. A sign about the beautification of a parking lot. A sign, that it not exactly pretty itself :)

I hope you have enjoyed travelling with me through this land of everything and anything.

Luxembourg Castle

Hello world,

Today we travel through mountains, forests and rivers to the land of Luxembourg. Overlooking the country is a castle. A castle that looks like it has been taken from a movie. There is however a problem with that castle. You can't go in. After hours spent in the car, I was really excited to go and see the castle in full. Walking up the hill, the sing that read "No access". I must admit it was a little bit like a slap in the face. From the outside however, the castle looked perfect.
